Hey England! You’re behind the times. We made our Brexit 240 years ago!

Funny thing is that most Brits have no freaking idea what’s going on on the 4th of July, not do they give a fuck really :)

And ‘Muricans, don’t forget to thank France for helping you get your freedom on this commemoration day. Lafayette FTW :)

As much as I love Lafayette, he was initially over here independently, not as an agent of France. Lafayette was the special kind of Frenchman who simply couldn’t exist in France. He’s about as American as they get.

The French took the whole revolution idea a bit too far. Nothing to lose your heads over.

He couldn’t be sent officially as Britain threatened a new war when they heard of Lafayette getting troops and officers ready to go to back up Americans. And in total he spent less than 10 years of his life in North America and he and his troops went back to France every time his work was done.

He then lived and died in France, leading la garde nationale, fighting against Austria and so on. He is very much French and battles like Yorktown or Virginia would have very much been lost without him or le comte de Rochambeau and well French troops.

Just because the help couldn’t be official at the beginning of the war doesn’t mean the USA were not backed up in men and equipment by France. American history made it sound like Lafayette arrived with his little backpack and led American troops against the Brits, when many decisive battles had more French than American troops in them or that Americans were actually getting beaten up until French came in to help (NY and NJ campaigns, Saratoga... etc). Even in battles like Yorktown, half the troops were French, bringing all the much needed equipment and naval support needed to beat the Brits that Americans simply didn’t have.

Without France there simply would be no America today. Spain (today’s Mexicans) also had a major role in this. I just find it funny that when reminded about that, many Americans just dismiss the whole thing like you just did. (“He is more American than French!!” Lol)

Was it a game of Rock Paper Scissors?
